Lego had to get in there somehow.. after all its the retro story of 2009.This is my favourite, slo mo animation + Lego + The Matrix = The Whole Enchilada
Pretty awesome shot of the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The stadium will host a total of seven FIFA World Cup 2010 football matches including Germany v Australia, Spain v Switzerland, Holland v Japan, Nigeria v Korea Republic, Brazil v Portugal, A round two game and the semi final.
Which made me think, could "Google Insights for Search" predict the winner before the public actually voted? Could Google Search be and accurate indictator as who would win?
And the results?
Firstly,
Mark Cavendish, Phillips Idowu, Beth Tweddle or Andrew Strauss, I'm
sorry to say that you're not even close ... sorry guys - you have all
had a fantastic year but you're not going to win - in fact you're not
even in the ballpark. Tom Daley fared slightly better, but still didn't
make the Top 5.
Now onto the real contenders.
The first query I ran was
for "Google searches during the last 30 days". The results showed a
skew towards David Haye, Jenson Button, and to a lesser extent Andy
Murray. However, it became pretty obvious that results were distorted.
Haye, Button and Murray scored higher due to the fact that they were in
"competition" during the 30 day period. David Hayes won his World Title
fight against Valuev, Jenson secured the F1 World Championship and Andy
Murray played at the ATP World Tour Finals.
The
BBC announced nomination on onday 30th November, and this immediately
led to an increase in search volume for David Haye, Jess Ennis and
Jenson Button, and to a lesser extent Ryan Giggs - with a decline for
Andy Murray.
We
can see that Andy Murray searches are in rapid decline after the ATP
World Tour Finals and Jess Ennis looks like an outsider unable to mount
a big enough challenge.
Ryan
Giggs received the most searches, although we do need to take into
account the fact that he's played football during the voting period and
that strong performances would account for several non-SPOTY related
queries. It's also worth noting that there appears to be a correlation
between searches and Manchester United's fixture list. However, Giggs
shouldn't be discounted altogether.....after all on Tuesday he won the
BBC Wales Sports Personality 2009.
Jenson Button, the bookies
favourite, is next - ever so slightly ahead of David Haye in 3rd. Of
course we shouldn't forget that racing drivers and boxers traditionally
perform well at SPOTY.
So according to Google Insights, the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year for 2009 will be:
1. Ryan Giggs
2. Jenson Button
3. David Haye
Well its a bit of fun ;)
..Oh and for those interested in Overseas Personality of the
Year...according to Google Searches the overwhelming winner is Tiger
Woods ;)
